Electrified Marina

Efficiency losses in cold weather is a very real thing in electric boats but it also happens in gas vehicles, people just don’t pay that close attention to their mpg like EV’s get scrutinized. In addition EBoats use a higher amount of energy to generate heat as opposed to ICE where it’s a wasteful byproduct of the combustion process. A lot of the energy loss in EV’s can be mitigated with a battery management system. Battery management system regulates heating in the battery when below freezing but if you schedule the charging to finish RIGHT near the departure time the battery will still be warm from charging so you won’t pay the penalty of heating the battery in the beginning of your trip. These two habits eliminate the majority of the “cold weather tax” but they only work if you have somewhere to be plugged in while parked. Many electric boats are produced in European and Scandinavian countries where cold weather is prevalent and they are used as ferry transport. With this in mind, extra attention has been paid to ensure reliability in these conditions.
