Over 90% of charging is done overnight when the grid is hardly used during “super off peak time.” This happens because it’s the most convenient and the cheapest. Many utility companies have time of use plans to incentivize overnight charging to shift the load of EV’s overnight and offer discounted rates. For those that charge at work during the day the grid is also not as “taxed” as it is in the late afternoon and early evening when it is stressed the most. Currently the grid can handle more EV’s that manufacturers produce or sell so it’s a non issue.
